Indexing appears to index fewer (10% items), but the getIndexStatus and UI shows it as "ready" and 100 percent complete

I recently saw this issue, where
1. The indexes shows they are 100 % ready and built.
2. the getIndexStauts matches above ( 100% complete)
3. The index stats on the main console shows however a very small percentage of items are actually indexed. ( 13k out of 330k) – this is super odd.
4. select * from system:indexes - shows all gsi indexes to be online.
5. The "default:flight_direction:num_docs_queued": 330168, shows all items in the queue.
