Log basic session data in main db.

I'd like to record the following data in the main db:

1) session start time
2) session end time (if possible, otherwise a startup will imply a shutdown end date)
3) shutdown reason (if possible)

Additionally, I'd like to relate stat snapshots to sessions and keep a couple of them.
