5% penalty from not using RAW projection modifier

Q1 uses a request of the form

select * from default use keys [$1]

If I change the request to select raw default..., on my little performance testbed throughput improves from 16700 req/sec to 17600 (a good 5%).
While we should change Q1 on perfrunner, we should also make the initial projection operator more efficient.
