Memory bloat when appending object up to 20mb

    Description

      I started appending 32k to an item until I got it up to 20mb. Eventually it started saying "not stored"...which was expected when it got to 20mb.

      However, the res usage of the memcached process was 1.3G according to top, yet mem_used was only 92071816.
