I've tried this 3 times on Windows 2008R2 servers running build 179, and I've not been able to reproduce this. Can I get access to nodes where this is happening so I can try it myself there?

I terminated the EC2 VMs where I reproduced this. Will set it up again and provide the information here.

Great. I won't have time to look at them today so no rush

I created new EC2 VMs and tried again. Not able to reproduce. Will reopen if I can repro again.

This appears to be the possible cause of MB-7658, MB-7902. In those bugs, I've verified that network connectivity is never lost, and the Erlang node connectivity is itself stable over long periods by themselves. Potentially, this is trigger the cluster to disconnect there.

It does not reproduce for me either, despite my best efforts.
