Description
This is very important so that CMake-powered tooling such as CLion can understand the project. Without this browsing and refactoring C files is broken.
Initially the aim was to use pure CMake but there were some issues with this on MacOS, which I worked around by using a 'hybrid' method when doing an actual build from setup.py. If possible we should look into fixing the MacOS issues so we no longer need this conditional 'hybrid' behaviour.
