Server environment variables are ignored

    Description

      It looks like the server init process completely wipes the environment when it launches. We should have a test case that shows this really: note this must be done by something that looks at the environment of the launched server processes rather than just the shell.

      If you shell in you get the correct environment so it should be looking for the variables defined in `cat /proc/1/environ`.
