[FTS] Better represent scorch's merger progress via the compaction progress on UI

Today, we just see a spike in compaction progress when the disk merger kicks off, but while the merger is doing what it does, there's no indication whatsoever on the UI, and this could mislead users to thinking that the process is stuck/doing nothing with items piling up in the queue.
