      Description

Need the ability to perform a point-in-time snapshot of an entire cluster. On proposed idea is to synchronously insert a marker into the persistence queue and take a backup only when all nodes have written that marker to disk

This is already supported through TAP and checkpoint.

No, it is not. This is a request for a cluster-wide snapshot capability which we are still tracking as an enhancement request.

Then, this is related to the backup utility that Steve is currently working for 2.0

Not exactly...there's no scope for this in his current plans. Hence why it's a separate enhancement request.

Poking to see what scenario this will satisfy; Assuming we can back up on this condition, when restoring we cannot restore to just the marker. Depending on how long the backup took, we cannot grantee any consistency for the whole bucket. Can I get more details on the scenario?
        thanks

The requirement here is that a backup can be taken, and when that backup is restored, all the data is "consistent". The actual point in time is not important (i.e., being able to specify that particular point in time) but rather than the data being restored is consistent across the cluster.

I get asked about this feature recently as well. Any thoughts or updates?

By using vbucket seq no's, this is now being implemented in the enterprise backup/restore tool
