[UI] Left menu jumps up and down

    Description

      Left menu jumps up and down depending on which item is selected and this seems annoying (not only to me). Please see video: Screen Recording 2021-05-13 at 12.52.37 PM.mov

            Rob - in the UI meeting and on this comment on this ticket you acknowledged that having the screen move around "can be annoying" and you promised that you would work on coming up with something to improve the experience. It would be good to hear your thoughts on how we might approach this.
