      What should be done?
      Right now the non-root installer would remove the old installation files and directories before restoring the config. This is an issue because if this restoration process fails the whole installation ends up in a broken state.

      The best way of addressing this issue is backing up the old installation files and directories and restoring them if an exception is thrown after they have been deleted.
