Description
AWS has added a new requirement for all marketplace EC2 instances to be attribution tagging. The requirement is for a user agent to be installed as part of the EC2 setup for AWS to track the usage/consumption data.
We should scope this effort first and then we can let AWS know the timeline it would take to get this done.
Here are examples and details from AWS.
AWS Partner team has mechanism to track service attribution for Amazon S3 and Amazon EC2 service. Attached are guides for tracking the services.
Partner has to implement a few lines of code and AWS collects the consumption data. AWS reports anonymized and aggregate data back to partner periodically.
Code Samples:
- Java SDK (v2) - S3 PutObject with User-Agent
- Python - Custom Lambda for EC2 via CloudFormation
- .NET - EC2 with User-Agent
