Description
Customers using our Rightscale template would like a script to be able to clone their cluster (for example quickly spinning up a test cluster from the current production cluster).
See the first comment for a proposed description of the steps required (needs review). An alternative suggestion is to directly clone the cluster based on snapshots of the primary and modify the /etc/hosts file prior to launch. This probably requires some discussion with righscale engineers to determine the best approach and explore how to adapt their current cloning capabilities.
One particular feature that requires including and testing is the ability to instantiate this secondary cluster with the SAME hostnames as the primary cluster and have these hostnames resolve to different IP addresses across the secondary cluster. Experimentation has shown that shutting down nodes in the secondary cluster has affected the behaviour of the primary cluster.
