Upsert with 100ns timeout does hit the wire

I did an upsert of a doc with a TimeSpan.fromTicks(1). It times out, with a sensible message in the console:

Couchbase.TimeoutException: Exception of type 'Couchbase.TimeoutException' was thrown.

However, it definitely does hit the wire, and results in a successful upsert. According to the rubric, this should not bother with hitting the wire, if I've understood things correctly.
