JSON document causes UI documents view to hang

• Can we understand what is causing the documents view to crash on the attached document?

Background

The customer reports that on 7.1.4 and 7.2.0, the attached document causes their UI to crash:

I've added one json document (attached to this ticket) to database, and wanted to see it in "Documents" tab in GUI. And the UI crashed

The document in question is:

Problem

I have been able to reproduce on 7.1.4. After the attached document is added to a collection, the documents view for that collection hangs indefinitely with "Retrieving results...":

I was able to verify that the same issue does not occur on 7.1.3:

The most likely related issue seems to be MB-54232 which was fixed in 7.1.4 and 7.2.0
At a speculative guess, maybe while fixing that issue, we might have introduced a regression.
